A multi-discipline working group, convened by A/Prof Katherine Clark, has been formed to review and critically analyse current and reputable evidence, describing the efficacy of end of life care pathways, and to assess whether such pathways require modification before they are implemented universally across the Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD). As a result, this group identified some concerns about the use of pathways for the dying. As a result of concerns, an alternative approach adopting a similar tack and trigger system, similar to that used by the Between the Flags program was proposed by developing a special observation chart to track a dying patients symptoms and to trigger responses when necessary.
The successful applicant will be responsible for:
1. Finalising the appearance of the chart;
2. Co-ordinating development of the education booklet to accompany use of the chart;
3. Co-ordinating the development of the processes that enable the diagnosis of dying to be made and communicated to health professionals involved in the care of the dying person;
4. Preparing for a pilot of the chart including evaluating the effectiveness of the chart.
Criteria:
Essential:
Relevant tertiary qualification. Demonstrated project management skills with proven ability to implement change and ability to develop evaluation framework for pilot projects. Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and within a collaborative team environment. Demonstrated communication, organisational and interpersonal skills. Capacity to work across a variety of facilities within Hunter New England Local Health District (HNELHD). Demonstrated computer literacy and demonstrated commitment to own personal and professional development. Current Drivers Licence. Commitment to the philosophy, mission and values of Little Company of Mary Health Care as it applies to the Hospital and the ability and desire to uphold these principles.
Essential (for those applying with Nursing Qualifications):
Registered Nurse authorised to practise by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Five years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least three years full time equivalent experience in Palliative Care or related discipline.
Desirable:
Demonstrated ability to work proficiently in periods of high demand and activity. Demonstrated commitment to quality improvement principles and improved health outcomes.
Salary & Conditions:
In accordance with the appropriate Enterprise Agreement dependent on the successful applicants qualifications and experience.

This position involves assisting the Clinical Information Manager to provide an efficient and effective clerical service to the hospital. This involves ensuring appropriate documents are filed in a timely manner into medical records, records are available as required to support patient care, records are tracked accurately, and working as part of a team dedicated to quality customer service. The successful candidate will be required to follow predefined procedures for work and will exercise practical judgment to complete work efficiently. Training of other employees and participation in ongoing education activities may be required.
Criteria:
Essential:
Demonstrated knowledge of a patient administration software system. Experience working in a hospital in a clerical area. Knowledge of and preferably experience in use of Terminal Digit Filing systems. Basic Medical Terminology acquired or studied. Strong computer keyboard skills. Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision; prioritise workloads; and produce accurate timely output whilst maintaining strict confidentiality. Proven effective interpersonal, communication and organisational abilities. Willingness to participate in job rotation programmes including across departments if required. Commitment to the Philosophy of the Hospital as advised by the LCMHC and the ability and the desire to promote and uphold these values.
Desirable:
Experience with the iPM system and other hospital information systems. Knowledge of confidentiality procedures as they relate to medical records. Experience working in a hospital medical record department.
Salary & Conditions:
In accordance with the Named NSW (Non-Declared) AHO Health Employees Agreement, Administrative Officer, Level 2 currently $878.90 (Year 1) to $909.90 (Year 2) per week, depending on years of service plus applicable loading and shift penalties.
